Winnipeg Jets offseason

2019-11-23

Jets began their offseason with the resgning of the key RFA in the team. They lock contracts with Rantanen, Johnsson, DeAngelo, Van Riemsdyk and Dickinson. Here's a look at the terms :

Mikko Rantanen, $6,000,000 for 4 years, SB of $6,000,000

Andreas Johnsson, $2,500,000 for 3 years

Tony DeAngelo, $2,000,000 for 4 years

Trevor Van Riemsdyk, $1,500,000 for 4 years

Jason Dickinson, $1,500,000 for 4 years

The UFA signing was not a busy one for the Jets with only one notable signature. They put up a big peace in their defensive corp with the signing of Calvin DeHaan. Here's a look at the term :

Calvin DeHaan, $3,750,000 for 4 years, SB of $4,500,000

The Jets was also looking for goalies as Ryan Miller and Michael Hutchinson were both going to the UFA at the end of the season. The team decided to not go in the UFA market and put up a two trade to acquire veterans goalies Mike Smith and Curtis McElhinney. Here are the trades :

  • Mike Smith, 2020 COL 5th pick for 2021 WPG 2nd pick and $500,000 cash.

  • Curtis McElhinney for 2020 WPG 4th pick

Overall, the team looks like in good shape and we think that this is the best team GM Joe Tremblay has make since he was named GM for the Winninpeg Jets.
