Big Swede comes to town

2024-04-11

At 1040pm Mountain Standard Time, on April 10th, the Calgary Flames and Montreal completed a late-night hockey trade. The two General Managers have been talking for what seemed like months. With many ideas being thrown back and forth involving a variety of options and tonight they finally decided to settle on a 1 for 1.

Going to Montreal, GM Matthew received forward Kappo Kakko while heading back to Calgary, GM Stephen received defenseman Philip Broberg.

Both GMs agreed it was a high-risk high reward trade for both sides, however both also agreed they hope it’s a win win for both teams.

“On behalf of the Calgary Flames, I would like to thank Kappo for his time with the Flames. It’s always tough when you move a player you drafted, and see them grow into young men, but we felt at this time we needed to give him the opportunity to get more playing time while giving further defensive reinforcements to the Wranglers.”

“As for Broberg, he brings an added defensive awareness and size, and a growing offensive side to a Wranglers group who are chasing the Coachella Valley Firebirds for first place in the Pacific Division.”  Talking to scouts in the Edmonton area, GM Stephen was told that Broberg just needs to be given a chance to prove himself but has the potential to be a very solid top 4 dman.”

With Makar, Sanderson, and Miller holding down the top 3 spots, Broberg will be given time to groom his craft, and when the time is right will be given every opportunity to compete for a top 4 spot next to those guys.”

Welcome to Calgary, Phil.
