That's a Wrap, Sharks Regular Season

2023-06-27

San Jose's season wrapped up yesterday with a 4-2 loss to the Seattle Kraken. That loss solidified the 31st place and guarantees the Sharks a top 4 pick in this years EHE entry draft. This will be the highest the team has drafted under the guidance of GM Jared Mitchell, who declared a rebuild was required two seasons ago and could be his highest pick in the EHE since year 1 with the Washington Capitals where they acquired the Minnesota Wild's 1st round pick in a deal sending out star Dman OEL for the pick which ended up at 3rd overall.

"This is another special draft in the EHE. We have another franchise changing player sitting at the top." Said the GM, who spoke to the media after addressing season ticket holders today. That player he speaks of is Connor Bedard. "It's been a bumpy road here in San Jose, year 1 we only made minor tweaks to the previous regimes roster and missed the playoffs. We decided the best route was to do a complete teardown and start building it back up, slowly through the draft. We surprised everyone year 2 and made the playoffs. Now this season our teardown is completed and we can begin to look towards the future."

"Looking towards the future" I guess this means the team is done trying to gain draft capital and will be icing a competative roster next season. There are a lot of holes in this lineup to fill, so we'll see if they can claw back into the playoff picture next season. There is lots of work to do.

At the meeting with season ticket holders, the team announced their season award winners. Those are as follows:

Team MVP: Alex Wennberg

Top Goalie: Felix Sandstrom

Top Defenseman: Jamie Oleksiak

Rookie of the Year: Drew O'Connor

Top Defensive Forward: Brad Richardson

Best Gentlemanly Conduct: Alex Wennberg

With the season done for both the Sharks & Barracuda, the team will work closely with their scouting staff on the upcoming draft. Good luck to all the teams who have made the playoffs!
